Marine Technician Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Must maintain leading-edge knowledge of diagnosis technology in a wide variety of motors/boats in order to expertly diagnose issues based upon experience, analysis, and testing.
- Perform routine service maintenance, inspections, test, and lubricate engines and other major components.
- Repair a variety of boats including inboard, outboard, and inboard/outboard.
- Assist in the setup and testing of new boats.
- Ability to summarize and winterize boats of all brands
- Be comfortable using a wide range of shop tools and equipment.
- Move boats of any length, up to 35'
- Maintain a positive attitude and be a productive member of our team.
- Provide our customers with a positive service experience.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment/station.
- Be a problem solver and be willing to tackle anything- be able to work independently and efficiently.
- Provide own set of hand tools.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following:
- Technical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge of engines, knowledge of electrical systems.
- Trailering: Be able to operate equipment such as tractors in order to haul, load and unload boats of any lengths. This must be done in a safe and efficient manner. This includes launching boats into the water.
- Communication: Able to interact professionally with colleagues, and clients. Be able to clearly and effectively communicate information both orally and in writing.
- Modesty: Have the ability to honestly and openly communicate any mistakes or mishaps made, and have the ability to learn from them in a positive way.
- Travel: Must be willing and able to travel to different locations for training and continuous education.
Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and ability required.
- Mercury Outboard Certified / IO MerCruiser
- Education/Experience: 1 - 3 years of experience in marine technical repair.
- Computer Skills: Ability to learn computer system.
- Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license with a clean record.
- Background Check: Pass a thorough background check.
- Operation of Boats: Ability to operate a wide range of different boats.
- Volvo Penta experience/certification an added bonus.
Compensation: To be determined based upon experience.

Compensation
$2,000 sign on bonus*
Hourly plus additional bonus ($2 - $7) per billable hour.
Hourly Pay - To be determined – based upon skill level.

Job Type
Full time or seasonal Job –February through December. Possibly longer due to demands, potential for full time, year round.

Required Experience
- Boating: Have at least one years boat operating.
- Mechanical: One to three years
